- Low agriculture productivity due to Inferior quality inputs such as fertilizers, seeds, pesticides, insecticides etc., are one of the biggest reason for farmer losses and farmers suicides. To ensure return on investment on the agriculture inputs their quality has to be thoroughly tested. Unfortunately, the seed, fertilizer, pesticide, soil, equipment testing labs are mainly using manual processes, as a result, farmers are not getting timely information about the spurious inputs on one hand and due to non-transparent procedures and non-standard documentation, enforcement agencies are losing legal battles against spurious inputs suppliers.
- As per a study released on 14th February 2014, by industry body Assocham and Yes Bank - pest and disease infestation resulted in crop losses worth Rs50,000 crore annually in India. There is a large scope to reduce the crop losses with the usage of good quality and standard bio- pesticides, as India's share in global bio-pesticide market is approximately less than two per cent. India's pesticides industry needs support of the government and regulatory bodies to ensure the quality with proper un-biased testing and certification of the bio-pesticides and other inputs.
